Long distance relationships are not difficult. Although Many things are compromised when you are with someone who is on a different geographical space. All you are left with is conversation over technology. How does one contend with that? It’s easy to throw in the towel, and swear off Long distance relationships for all of eternity. But, the fact is that Long distance relationships are now more common than ever before, thanks to the same technology, and well, globalization. So, instead of telling yourself that you will never be in this situation, try these things to keep the spark live?
We may feel tempted to compensate for lost in-person time by calling or texting just to check-in, multiple times a day. But, avoid over-communicating because, like in any other relationship, you want to maintain some intrigue and distance to keep the mystery alive.
Keep the surprise element alive
If you are used to texting each other at a certain time, maybe call instead. Send them an email, or a present. How about a surprise visit?
Meet as often as possible
How often you two are able to see each other will depend on two factors – how far you are from each other, and how much money you have because, let’s not forget, all those flight tickets can add up! But, maybe figure that out, and decide the frequency that works for both of you. This will also give you something to look forward to.
Why visit each other when you can meet at a third location? Start half-way, and work your way to the rest of the globe as you explore the world together!
Send pictures through the day
There may not be much conversation to be had, but you can take your LDR bae through your day with pictures. If you are eating something interesting, send them a picture. Wearing a new dress? Picture. New haircut? Picture. Dog poop on your evening walk? Picture!
Have a life of your own
Not that this isn’t absolutely crucial any given time in your life but, in LDR, it becomes all the more important for you to have a solid social circle of your own, along with some hobbies, and other things that you do FOR YOU.
